DPCMO claims that TikTok is violating the Digital Markets Act

TikTok/ByteDance violates the European Digital Markets Act when they won't share data, claims DPCMO. That's why we have complained to the competition authorities/EU Commission about TikTok together with Danske Medier.

TikTok/ByteDance also violates the European DSM Directive and the Danish Copyright Act when they refuse to share data and pay the rightsholders for the value that the news content creates for the platform, according to DPCMO. That’s why we have started an arbitration case against TikTok.

TikTok is a popular news source. The lack of transparency is a democratic problem.

The opacity of TikTok’s algorithm raises concerns about uncontrolled influence on public debate, the spread of misinformation, potential political manipulation and undermining democratic values such as transparency and accountability. We need to take action.
