TikTok is in the media spotlight. For good reason

The Danish Minister of Digital Affairs has stated that the moral compass is completely lost in the big tech giants. TikTok ignores complaints from children's organisations about dangerous self-harming content. The Minister emphasises that Denmark will lead the way in Europe with regulation and consequences for the platforms.

Romanian officials involve the EU in irregularities on TikTok during the first round of the national presidential election. So today, the European Commission sent TikTok a request for information under the Digital Services Act.

DPCMO has been in conflict with TikTok for a long time. TikTok has refused to participate in mediation authorised by the Danish Minister of Culture. TikTok has refused to participate in arbitration. TikTok refuses to share data, so DPCMO and Danske Medier have filed a complaint to the European Commission. We believe that TikTok is also violating the Digital Markets Act. Today, we have submitted additional material in the case.

We look forward to our upcoming meetings with the Ministers. We will make concrete proposals on how we can regulate big tech and enforce our regulation. When we all contribute – as policymakers, enforcers, NGOs, academia, European businesses, parents, friends and fellow human beings – we can make a difference.
